Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Review – A Nostalgic Return for Fans?

By GoAA

“Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest” is the official sequel to the original “Fairy Tail” anime. Set after the defeat of Zeref Dragneel and the Spriggan 12, this new adventure follows Natsu Dragneel, Lucy Heartfilia, and their friends as they take on the eponymous 100 Years Quest—a mission that has remained unaccomplished for over a century due to its extreme difficulty and danger.

Characters Featured & Plot So far

The main cast remains true to their familiar personalities. Natsu is the determined and sometimes impulsive hero, Lucy is clever and resourceful, and Erza is the protective big sister. And yes, our ice boy Gray-sama is also there on the team. While the characterization isn’t exceptionally deep, it aligns with what fans expect from the franchise. Other characters, like Juvia and Gajeel, also make appearances, adding to the usual nostalgic vibe of the Fairy Tail anime.

The quest to seal away the Five Dragon Gods takes our heroes to the northern continent of Guiltina (as shown in the map picture below). Along the way, they encounter new challenges (any more details will mean spoilers from manga, so no spoilers here). The world expands as we learn more about this perilous mission and the mysterious Touka, a spirited new member of Fairy Tail. And somehow, she started vibing with Juvia due to some personal reasons (iykyk).

The animation quality is decent, though not groundbreaking. The focus on official wizard jobs—contracts for rewards—adds a fresh angle to the story. While it may not match the intensity of some other shonen titles, it remains faithful to the original “Fairy Tail” style.

Is Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Worth Watching?

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest offers a comforting return to the world of Fairy Tail. It’s a good starting point, but the story has the potential to develop further. If you’re a diehard fan, this sequel is a must-watch to see your favorite characters tackle a brand new challenge.

Newcomers to the series might find themselves a little lost without the context of the original story. However, the series’ lighthearted tone and focus on official wizard jobs (missions with rewards) offer an easy entry point. So, whether you’re a seasoned Fairy Tail binge-watcher or just curious about the world of magic guilds, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest offers a delightful adventure filled with familiar faces and exciting new possibilities.
